Applications

Scientific Research & Laboratory

Fused quartz, sapphire, and specialty ceramic components for university research, national laboratory, and advanced R&D applications with material and inspection requirements reviewed by project.

Fused Quartz & Advanced Ceramics for Scientific Research

Research laboratories and national facilities often require components with project-specific purity, dimensional, geometry, temperature, radiation, or chemical-environment requirements that should be reviewed before quotation.

Tuguan Semiconductor supplies prototype and small-batch precision components directly to academic, government, and industrial research laboratories worldwide.

Typical Research Applications

Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) Chambers

Fused quartz and synthetic silica can be reviewed for vacuum-related service where the design and test requirements are defined:

  • Outgassing and bakeout requirements should be specified by the project
  • Leak testing can be arranged for relevant welded or vacuum components when specified
  • Joint design, material source, and cleaning requirements should be confirmed before quotation

High-Temperature Reaction Tubes (> 1200°C)

Research furnaces often operate at temperatures beyond commercial semiconductor requirements. Options by temperature range:

Temperature RangeMaterialForm
Quartz-range thermal processesFused quartz Grade 1Tube, boat, crucible
Higher-temperature ceramic processesAl₂O₃ ceramicTube, boat, crucible
Inert-atmosphere ceramic processesBoron nitrideCrucible, liner, nozzle
High-temperature support componentsSilicon carbideTube, susceptor

Crystal Growth Equipment

Czochralski and Bridgman crystal growth systems require:

  • Quartz crucibles (for silicon Czochralski growth)
  • Quartz or alumina growth tubes
  • BN or SiC susceptors for RF-heated systems

Crystal growth crucible material, purity, and inspection scope should be reviewed against the process, source material, and drawing requirements.

Neutron & X-ray Beamline Components

Fused quartz and synthetic silica have very low neutron capture cross-sections, making them ideal for beamline windows, sample holders, and flow cells in neutron scattering experiments.

ComponentMaterialProperty Required
Neutron windowSynthetic fused silicaLow neutron capture; high purity
X-ray capillaryFused quartzThin wall (0.01–0.1 mm); transparency to X-ray
Sample cellFused quartzChemical resistance; optical transparency
Cryostat windowSapphireLow-temperature IR transparency

Plasma Physics Equipment

Research plasma chambers (tokamaks, helicons, RF sources) require:

  • UHV-compatible quartz viewing ports
  • High-purity quartz and ceramic insulators
  • Sapphire viewports for high-power plasma facing surfaces

Prototype & Small-Batch Service

Research applications typically require:

  • 1–10 pieces per order — we accept prototype quantities
  • Complex geometries — machined from customer drawings
  • Lead time review — timing depends on drawing complexity, quantity, material availability, and inspection requirements
  • Technical consultation — application engineers available to advise on material selection and design
